While other hospitality businesses are being hit with soaring electricity bills, the Old Oak in Cork has managed to limit the impact through its adoption of solar power.

The bar has installed almost 100 solar panels on its roof and is now self-generating a significant proportion of its energy needs.

Solar power in Europe has soared by almost 50 percent in 2022. Germany installed more solar than any other country, adding almost 8 GW.

Solar power in Europe has soared by almost 50 per cent in 2022, according to a new report from industry group SolarPower Europe.

It reveals that the EU installed a record-breaking 41.4 GW of solar this year – enough to power the equivalent of 12.4 million homes. That is a 47 per cent increase from the 28.1 GW installed in 2021.

In one year, the bloc’s capacity to generate power from this renewable source has increased by 25 per cent.

La Plata National University and Recyclamar Pampa Argentina teamed up to deploy solar power on a self-propelled, water-cleaning robot.

Fresh off its victory in the 2022 World Cup, the nation of Argentina is now gearing up to tackle the massive problem of plastic pollution in waterways around South America and the Caribbean. The country’s premier academic institution, La Plata National University, has teamed up with the company Recyclamar Pampa Argentina to deploy solar power on a self-propelled, water-cleaning robot.

The new solar power project joins the waste management experts from Recyclamar Pampa with the University’s Institute for Research in Electronics, Control and Signal Processing, which took care of the autonomous control system, among other tasks.

Eichten’s solar purchase 10yrs ago was similarly the start of something big. Neighbors and clean energy companies began to see opportunities.

It sounded absurd, the idea of spending a large sum of money to install solar panels in a Minnesota farm field that is covered in snow for much of the year.

But Ed Eichten’s family had gotten used to his wild ideas that turned out to work, like raising bison to sell or turning a small cheese-making business into a retail operation.

His solar purchase 10 years ago was similarly the start of something big. Neighbors and clean energy companies began to see opportunities that led to Chisago County, Minnesota, becoming a hub for solar power development, with dozens of projects including the largest one in the state, North Star Solar.

McDonald's and five logistics partners signed agreements to buy about 190 megawatts of power from the Blue Jay Solar farm.

McDonald’s Corp. and its suppliers signed a deal to buy enough solar energy to power all the warehouses, distribution centers and other elements of the logistical supply chain that serves its US restaurants.

The Chicago-based fast-food chain and five logistics partners signed agreements to buy about 190 megawatts of power from the Blue Jay Solar farm that the Italian power giant Enel SPA is building about 100 miles (161 kilometers) northwest of Houston, Enel and McDonald’s told Bloomberg News. That’s enough to run about 38,000 Texas homes.

Solar panels placed over parking spaces are among the many options that can help companies get closer to their sustainability goals.

People are getting progressively creative about how and where they deploy solar panels. One recent example concerns efforts to plant certain crops under them. Then, farmers can take advantage of formerly unused land, plus get power generation potential and extra earning opportunities. Parking lot solar power is another possibility gaining momentum. Here’s a closer look at some of the perks it offers.

1. Enabling Greater Energy Independence
2. Increasing Research Opportunities
3. Enhancing Convenience for Drivers of Electric Cars
4. Creating Shadier Spaces While Prioritizing Sustainability

If the US passed the same solar-panels-on-parking-lots law as France, we would have 4,822 square miles on which to install solar.

For climate campaigners, French parking lots are now very exciting places.

In November, France’s senate approved a law which would require the owners of almost all large parking lots to install solar panels. They would have to cover 50% of the lots’ surface area by 2028—or face a heavy monthly fine. If the legislation passes as expected in its final reading at the National Assembly in December, the French government expects it will add 11 gigawatts (GW) of solar capacity to the national grid.

At least $25.7B in new US clean-energy factories are in the works. Most of these projects and jobs are in traditionally conservative states.

At least $25.7 billion in new U.S. clean-energy factories are in the works, thanks in part to the generous subsidies in President Joe Biden’s landmark climate law. Most of these projects — and the jobs that come with them — are in traditionally conservative states.

In Dalton, Georgia, green energy hasn’t been a priority. Its congressional representative, Marjorie Taylor Greene, has said that “Earth warming and carbon is actually healthy for us.”

But a new solar-panel factory is changing minds in the city of 34,000. Indeed, the presence of new jobs is transforming solar power into a tangible community benefit.

As the cheapest clean energy technology, solar energy will be deployed at a massive scale to help the world meet its climate & energy goals.

Solar infrastructure brings about important opportunities for ecology and regeneration — this was the headline of the session, “How to reconcile Economy and Ecology?”, co-organized by the Global Solar Council and SolarPower Europe at the Wind and Solar Pavilion, in the Blue zone of COP27 on November 9.

As the cheapest clean energy technology, solar energy will be deployed at a massive scale to help the world meet its climate and energy goals. Such deployment of solar infrastructure requires space and land, creating both challenges and opportunities.

So far, climate change mitigation and adaptation focused on carbon neutrality and sustainable finance-developed carbon markets. But to tackle the challenges of soil degradation and biodiversity loss, finance and business models will have to evolve.

Solar power capacity in the US has grown from just 0.34 GW in 2008 to an estimated 97.2G W today, providing enough energy to 18 million homes.

The U.S. has plans to expand its solar energy market exponentially in support of its optimistic climate change policies. The country has already established several widescale solar projects, and with the introduction of the recent Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), renewable energy companies are being provided with the funding and tax cuts needed to encourage more rapid expansion of a variety of green energy projects. With a massive solar pipeline over the next few years, the U.S. will soon become a regional solar power hub.

The solar power capacity in the U.S. has grown from just 0.34 GW in 2008 to an estimated 97.2 gigawatts (GW) today, providing enough energy to power 18 million homes. However, at present, just 3 percent of the country’s electricity comes from solar photovoltaics (PV) and concentrating solar-thermal power (CSP), demonstrating the potential to expand the industry much further.
