GCSE’s Valley Clean Infrastructure Plan would enable family farms to lease land for clean energy projects and increase water efficiency

First project in 20GW solar, 20GW storage plan for ‘challenged land’ in Fresno County, California

California community choice aggregator MCE and developer Golden State Clean Energy (GSCE) have partnered to work on a solar and storage project in California, the first in a plan to install up 20GW of solar and 20GW of storage.

MCE and GSCE will work on a solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) project as part of a development programme known as the Valley Clean Infrastructure Plan.

The Valley Clean Infrastructure Plan aims to repurpose up to 130,000 acres of drainage-impaired or water-challenged lands in the Westlands Water District in Fresno County. The District is the largest agricultural water district in the US at 614,000 acres, or 2,400 square kilometres, and serves the agricultural sector.

California Energy Commission awards clean energy loan to Middletown Rancheria of Pomo Indians in California in Lake County to build solar photovoltaic project

The California Energy Commission (CEC) has expanded its successful low- and zero-interest clean energy loan program to include applications from California Native American Tribes.

The first recipient of the expanded Energy Conservation Assistance Act (ECAA) program is the Middletown Rancheria of Pomo Indians of California. On June 12, the CEC approved a $3 million loan at one-percent interest for the tribe to build a carport- and rooftop-mounted solar photovoltaic system to support the casino, hotel, and event center building. The Rancheria is a regional emergency/evacuation center during power outages, wildfires and natural disasters.

SunZia, a massive clean energy project in the US Southwest, has closed $11 billion non-recourse financing and launched full construction.

Daniel Elkort, executive vice president at Pattern Energy, the project’s California-based developer, said about the milestone finance package:

The size and scale of both the SunZia project and this multifaceted financing show that the renewable energy space can secure attractive capital at levels previously only seen in traditional generation.

The largest clean energy project in the US comprises two arms: SunZia Wind and SunZia Transmission. The projects will employ more than 2,000 workers onsite during construction, including heavy equipment operators, electricians, laborers, and others.

Rivian, BrightNight, and The Nature Conservancy will together turn one of the largest coal mines in the US into Kentucky’s largest solar farm.

Starfire Mine used to be one of the largest coal mines in the US. And now, global renewable power producer BrightNight’s CEO Martin Hermann, Rivian’s founder and CEO RJ Scaringe, and The Nature Conservancy’s CEO Jennifer Morris announced today that all three companies will work together to transform Kentucky’s Starfire into a solar farm.

Rivian and The Nature Conservancy collaborated to choose “a clean energy project that would accelerate an equitable, science-based clean energy transition that maximizes positive impacts on climate, conservation, and communities,” and they selected BrightNight to be the Starfire solar project’s developer.

SDSU & Cuyamaca College to share in federally funded clean energy project

San Diego State University (SDSU) and Cuyamaca College have been chosen as part of a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) program intended to streamline career paths for students interested in the clean energy economy.

They are among a group of higher education institutions tapped to serve as Centers of Excellence for DOE’s Industrial Assessment Centers (IAC) Program. Those selected as part of the competitive process will receive a combined $18.7 million in funding from President Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
