Blue Innovations Group (BIG), the electric boat startup founded by a former Tesla executive, has just launched its first electric boat. The R30 falls somewhere between an electric powerboat and a day cruiser, offering impressive specs in a spacious 30-foot (9.4 meter) package large enough for 12 passengers to relax in comfort.

As founder and CEO John Vo shared during the announcement, “The R30 will provide the ultimate boating experience for customers with uncompromised safety, performance, style, and value while being environmentally friendly.”

Community centers are turning to solar & storage to provide power and are exploring new solar savings and benefit-sharing models along the way

In many communities, hospitals, places of worship, and recreation centers play a vital role in bringing people together and helping in times of need.

Now, community centers are turning to solar and storage to provide power and are exploring new solar savings and benefit-sharing models along the way.

Here’s what this looks like across the country.

MIT scientists have designed a solar-powered desalination system that turns saltwater into drinkable water at a higher volume and lower cost.

MIT scientists have designed a solar-powered desalination system that turns saltwater into drinkable water at a higher volume – and lower cost.

Researchers from MIT and Shanghai Jiao Tong University have published a paper, “Extreme salt-resisting multistage solar distillation with thermohaline convection,” in the journal Joule about a study that has the potential to make a big leap forward in reducing the cost of water production because it doesn’t require electricity to run.

The device they built creates circular currents of water known as eddies that look like small whirlpools that function similarly to the ocean’s much larger thermohaline circulation. This circulation, combined with the sun’s heat, drives water to evaporate, leaving salt behind.

A Surrey brewery has set up a subsidiary which produces beer using nothing but solar power.

A Surrey brewery has set up a subsidiary which produces beer using nothing but solar power.

The One Planet Brewing Co has been set up in Tongham, near Farnham, by the Hogs Back Brewery.

Rooftop panels provide the energy for the brewery’s equipment.

Hogs Back said it hopes to reach net zero in 2030 – a decade ahead of the rest of the industry.

One Planet’s first beer was a 5.5% brew called Hazy IPA.

“The whole beer industry is committing to get to net zero by by 2040” said Rupert Thompson, managing director of Hogs Back Brewery.

US solar is growing at a breakneck speed, and it hit several big milestones in July, according to newly released government data.

In its latest monthly “Energy Infrastructure Update” report (with data through July 31, 2023) reviewed by the SUN DAY Campaign, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) says solar provided 1,824 megawatts (MW) of new US generation capacity, or more than 67.2% of the total added in July 2023. The balance (892 MW) was provided by natural gas. This brought solar’s share of total available installed generating capacity in the US up to 7.12%.

Officials from the city of Brisbane and their power provider cut the ribbon on the first of twelve government buildings across San Mateo County converting to solar power.

Squinting against the afternoon sun, officials from the city of Brisbane and their power provider, Peninsula Clean Energy, cut the ribbon on the first of twelve government buildings across San Mateo County converting to solar power.

Photos were taken under photovoltaic solar panels at the city-owned event space, the Mission Blue Center, to celebrate California’s Clean Air Day.

Solar and Storage on Public Buildings is a local program endorsed by the Coalition for Clean Air, a nonprofit environmental group. It is administered by Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE), the official energy service provider for San Mateo County.

Hormel Foods Corporation celebrated the completion of an 8-acre solar field during a ribbon-cutting event at its Jennie-O plant location.

The project is projected to generate 3.2 million kilowatt hours (kWh) per year between the community solar and onsite solar projects. The onsite solar portion of the project will supply approximately 10% of the plant’s annual electricity, while the community solar portion of the project will provide Jennie-O team members, community members and businesses the opportunity to support green power and receive discounts on their energy bills.

“We are inspired to do our part to make the world a better place with the completion of this project,” said Tom Raymond, director of environmental sustainability at Hormel Foods. “We know the importance of advancing renewable energy initiatives and this project demonstrates our commitment to environmental stewardship, including how we source the energy we need.”

Elected officials and school leaders in Alameda County are calling on the state to block a controversial proposal that could prevent California schools from embracing solar power.

Elected officials and school leaders in Alameda County are calling on the state to block a controversial proposal that could prevent California schools from embracing solar power.

School board officials in Oakland and state leaders want the state to reject the proposal that they say would spike solar costs on rooftops and parking lots and ultimately take money away from Oakland classrooms.

“It’s baffling that anyone would make solar projects more difficult rather than easier at this very urgent time,” Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) board member Sam Davis said.

This week, the US Energy Information Administration published its latest monthly report on the country’s energy mix.

This week, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), the government body that publishes data on the state of the US power sector, published its latest monthly report on the country’s energy mix. Critically, this month’s data covers the US energy sector up to and including June this year, providing information on power in the first half of the year, and offering ample opportunities to compare the US’ energy performance to other halves and quarters in recent US history.

Many of the takeaways are relatively straightforward, with the US on track for record-breaking levels of electricity generation across the power sectors. In the first half of this year, the US produced 50.3 quadrillion British thermal units (BTU), the most in the first half of a year in history, and putting the US on pace to produce over 100qBTU this year, should it maintain the current levels of production for the remainder of the year, which would be a record figure.

The report found that solar power capacity increased nearly 50% in the last two years and electric car sales increased by 240%.

The window to limit human-caused warming to a globally agreed goal is narrowing but still open because of the huge growth of solar energy and electric vehicles sales worldwide, a report said Tuesday.

For the last two years, the rate of the build up of solar energy and electric vehicle sales were in line with achieving emissions reductions targets that will help cap warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels, the Paris-based International Energy Agency said.
